Hello gorgeous, so today I want to talk all about highlighters and illuminators. These are one of my most favorite beauty products on the market.  I CANNOT live without them!

Using them draws attention to your eyes and other parts of your face. They are crazy simple to use yet they can make such a beautiful difference to your makeup routine.

Throughout this post I will explain how I use highlighters and where you can pick up my favorite ones. Then at the very end I’ll talk about something even cooler than highlighters.
The trick to highlighting and illuminating is the placement of the product. Where you place the highlighter will allow you to control how “glowy” you want to look. If you want a more natural and subtle look, only place the highlighter at the top of your cheekbones. To apply the product you can use your finger or my favorite way to apply it is with a fan brush or the elf blush brush ($3, Target).

Now if you want to go all out with the highlighter you can place it in several different areas. In the picture below you can see where I like to put my highlight.  I place highlighter on my cheekbones, the inner corner of my eye, under my brow, above my top lip, and down the bridge of my nose.

There are several different highlighters to suit every woman’s wants and needs.

First, are the Natural highlighters. These give a very subtle, healthy glow from within. These highlighters work best for girls going for a natural look. They are also my best friend when I am doing bridal makeup.

My favorite product for a natural highlight is all of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders. These can be found at Sephora and can range from $20-$50.

Next are the more dramatic highlights (my favorite).  These give the most glamorous glow whenever the light hits your face. I have quite a few favorites for this.

My very favorite is the Becca Pressed Shimmering Skin Perfectors in Moonstone (for fair to light skin) or Opal (medium to tan skin tones). These are the most gorgeous highlights in the world. You can use them as an eyeshadow and a highlighter. They can be purchased at Sephora for $38.

Another great highlighter is the Mary Loumanizer by the Balm. This can also be used as an eyeshadow and is very intense. (Amazon $21)

For my girls on a budget Elf Pinktastic blush which is only $3!  Bonus? it is an amazing highlighter and also a perfect dupe for the famous MAC soft and gentle highlight.

Okay so now that we have talked about how to get that artificial glow let’s’ get to the important stuff aka the “inner glow”.

Do you know how important you are?! Like really, you are the most important thing to the most powerful being in the universe. YOU have a unique light in yourself that no one on this planet can replace. Whether it be your talents, your character, your kindness it can be anything. But you have been blessed with something inside you that this world NEEDS you to share.

Take time to think about what talents or attributes you have been blessed with and please don’t waste them! Share them with others.

Never forget, true beauty does not come from makeup; it comes from within.

Thanks for reading beautiful!

xoxo,
Alexa

Hello beautiful, I am Alexa (BE WISE, Beauty Editor) and I love romantic walks down the makeup aisle. I am a beauty product junkie and I spend much of my spare time learning the best (hair, makeup, skincare) tips and tricks. Currently, I have one of the best jobs as a make-up artist, because I get to make women feel confident and beautiful every day. I am also a business and marketing major with a goal to get my law degree.

You may be wondering why would I be a part of BE WISE if I love makeup and beauty products so much? Because that is totally not what this magazine is about. The answer? - I joined BE WISE because I wanted to start a different type of beauty blog that wasn't so fixated on outer beauty. My goal is to talk about inner beauty (confidence, kindness, self-worth, goal setting, loving yourself, etc.) just as much.

I will be combining both topics for beauty posts for your face and your mind. But let's be real no amount of makeup can mask an ugly heart, true beauty comes from within!
